Nordic airline immediately stopped flights after filing for bankruptcy

In 2022, Brathens installed Brathens International Airways AB and Brathens crew AB to offer airbus flights for Scandinavian tour operators.

The airline said in a statement that the aircraft delivery, high operating costs and the demand for tour operators were delayed, despite “cost-saving measures”, “financial challenges” were made.

On 27 August 2025, the Board of Directors decided to gradually shut down the airbus business, but “comprehensive additional financing” was not secured to phase the operation.

BraThens said: “The board of directors and management regrets the status deeply, but given the acute financial situation, there is no option left.”

Flights on lease with ATR72-600 aircraft of Brathhes for other airlines will continue as scheduled.

According to the airline, union talks have been started to manage outfits for about 200 employees. And “security of jobs within business”.

It states that the companies have not included regional airlines AB, Brathens Regional Airways AB, BraThens Peepal AB and Breaths Support AB in bankruptcy proceedings.

Per G Brathane, the majority owner of Brathens, said: “It is very sad that tonight the board of directors has been forced to file for bankruptcy for airbus business.

“Unfortunately, the money we have tried for a controlled phase-out has not been achieved, and I think the affected people are unhappy, shocked and disappointed. Now we have no choice but to focus on the part of the business that can achieve long-term profitability.”

Braathens International Airways AB is not the only airline to prevent operation this week.

The carrier told the passengers, “All flights have been canceled. We are deeply sorry for this disintegration that this is the reason and thanks for your understanding.”
