Royal Caribbean has unveiled plans to create a fifth icon class mega cruise ship.
Cruise lineWhich is already a fourth icon class ship in development at Mayor Turku Shipyard in Finland, now signed an agreement for the fifth in the series.
The fourth, which is only referred to as only icon 4, is to be distributed in 2027. The icon 5 is due to the next year. The agreement also includes the option of making a sixth and seventh ship.

A nail-leaving ceremony-where new coins are placed under the first steel block of the ship to mark the onset of construction-was held at the beginning of September.
Royal Caribbean Group President Jason Liberty said: “This is an exciting time for our company, and we are proud to launch this new phase in our history with our respected partners, Mayor Turcu, Finnish Sarkar and Finnish Marine Cluster.”
Royal Caribbean’s agreement with Mayor Turku means that there are now shipbuild slots until 2036.
Mayor Turku CEO Qasimir Lindhom said: “Now the framework agreement is signed, we announce their general plan for the next decade in collaboration with the Royal Caribbean Group and other major partners, to build more icon class ships in the next decades and run the future of shipbuilding.”
