Bogota, October 2 (IANS) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, a sharp criticism of the Narendra Modi government, warned that today the biggest threat before India is a systematic attack on its democratic foundation.
Addressing a pack auditorium during a conversation with students at the EIA University in NVGado, Columbia, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha said that India’s strength lies in its diversity – its crowd, religions, languages and traditions – and this democracy is the only system that is capable of giving place to all these voices.
But that system, he claimed, is subject to siege.
Gandhi described India as a complex and decentralized nation, which is fundamentally different from the centralized and uniform structure of China. He argued that India’s design cannot accommodate totalitarianism and that the attempt to suppress its people would eventually fail.
“India is a conversation among all its people,” he said that Democratic Framework is necessary to allow various traditions and ideas to flourish.
Gandhi also talked about India’s location in global energy infection, with the rise of empires, drawn historical similarities. The British said, “coal and steam have mastered, while Americans dominated the changes in petrol and internal combustion engines.” Now, the world is moving towards electric motors and battery technology, and the real competition is between the US and China that will lead this infection.
He said that China is currently ahead, and as a neighbor of India, a neighbor of China and a partner of America, find itself in the heart of this global confrontation.
Despite expressing optimism about India’s ability, Gandhi warned against internal defects. He highlighted the importance of nutrition of regional languages and traditions, warning that any attempt to suppress them would be reversed. He also addressed the issue of unemployment, given that India’s service-based economy struggles to generate enough jobs.
Attracting a parallel with the US, he said that Donald Trump’s polarization campaign made the most resonance to those who lost manufacturing jobs.
Gandhi also emphasized the need to develop a production model for India, which works within a democratic structure, capable of competing with China’s powerful success.
