New Delhi, 2 October (IANS) President Drupadi Murmu on Thursday greeted the countrymen on the occasion of Vijayadashami and prayed for inspiration to build a nation where people live in peace and harmony.
Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, is seen annually in the culmination of Shardia Navriri. In the Hindu Lunisolar calendar, falling on the tenth day of the month of Ashwin, it symbolizes the victory of good over evil.
In a statement, President Murmu said, “On the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami, I give my heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all my countrymen.”
He said, “The symbol of the victory of religion over unrighteousness, the festival of Vijayadashami inspires us to follow the path of truth and justice,” he said.
“Ravana is celebrated in different parts of the country as Dahan and Durga Puja, this festival reflects the values of India. This festival gives us a message to give up negative trends like anger and ego and adopt a positive trend like conflict and bravery,” he said.
“I want this festival to inspire us to create a society and country where all people progress together in life with justice, equality and harmony,” the President said.
The word Vijayadashami is a combination of ‘Vijaya’, which means victory, and ‘Dashami’, reflecting the festival, reflecting the festival that celebrates the victory of righteousness over bad forces.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took on social media and wished the countrymen on auspicious occasion.
PM Modi posted on X. PM Modi posted, “Vijayadashami is a symbol of a victory of good and truth over evil and untruth. I wish that on this holy occasion, everyone gets the inspiration to continuously progress on the path of courage, knowledge and devotion,” PM Modi posted on X.
Giving his best wishes, he said, “My biggest greetings of Vijayadashami for my family members across the country.”
