Imphal, October 1 (IANS) Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Wednesday called for a strong inter -grain solidarity to create a more kind and inclusive Manipur.
Speaking on the adherence to the International Day of Old Person -2025, the Governor stressed that the elders are not only the recipients of care, but are active participants in shaping the society.
He said that his intelligence, flexibility, and living experiences remain invaluable assets, directing both families and communities to harmony and progress.
Highlighting the role of the youth, Bhalla said that the energy and innovation of the young generations, when combined with the knowledge and stability of the elderly, create a powerful force capable of addressing both local challenges and global concerns.
Repeating that dignity, honor and inclusion, there are cases of justice rather than donations, the governor called for a strong interior solidarity to create a more kind and inclusive Manipur.
He appreciated the continuous efforts of the Social Welfare Department in implementing welfare schemes and initiatives, which have positively influenced the lives of senior citizens across the state.
The theme of this year’s International Day of Old Persons is’ local and older people taking global action ‘: our aspirations, our good, our rights,’ ‘rights,’ highlighting the important role of elders as active contributors in society.
During the incident, the governor distributed gifts, AIDS and accessories to senior citizens, which re -confirmed the state’s commitment to their dignity and welfare.
The program was also attended by Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Senior Citizen, Students, NGOs and other stakeholders.
Additionally, the Governor chaired a meeting at Raj Bhawan, Imphal, with the organizing committee of the Meera Hou Chongba function scheduled for 7 October.
The festival confirms the bond of unity between the hill and the valley communities of Manipur and serves as a unique opportunity where people from diverse indigenous groups come together in the spirit of harmony and cultural exchange.
Celebrated in the holy Kangla Fort in Imphal, it brings together leaders of people of various hill districts and valley to maintain this permanent tradition of Brotherhood.
During the meeting, major arrangements such as transport, housing and logical preparations were discussed to ensure the smooth operation of the celebration.
The governor directed the officials to make this year’s celebration more comfortable and massive. The meeting was attended by a Rajya Sabha member of Manipur Maharaja Sanajoba Leshamba, Chief Secretary, Commissioner (Ghar) and other senior officials.
