New Delhi, October 1 (IANS) introduces a variety of mixtures of experienced MPs and fresh faces from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on effective defense from 26 September.
Veteran BJP leader Radha Mohan Singh has been appointed as the chairman of the committee, who plays an important role in the supervision of India’s defense policies, military preparations and strategic affairs.
Among the prominent members are Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, whose inclusion has focused renewed on bilateral engagement in the defense oversight.
Former Congress president and sitting Lok Sabha MP Gandhi has previously worked on various parliamentary panels, but his presence in the Defense Committee is particularly notable given his vocal stance on national security and military welfare.
Actor and politician Kamal Haasan, making his debut in the work of the Parliamentary Committee, is now celebrated a Rajya Sabha MP.
Hassan, the founder of Makkal Needi Myim Party, has long advocated transparency, technical modernization and civil-centric rule.
His entry into the Defense Committee is a symbol of a significant change in strategic policy formulation by cultural activism.
Known for its obvious ideas and reformist enthusiasm, in the presence of Haasan, there is a possibility of injecting a new approach in the discussion on defense innovation and civil-monetary relations.
The committee consists of 21 members from Lok Sabha and 10 members from Rajya Sabha.
Members of the notable Lok Sabha include Karti P Chidambaram, Mahua Motra, Ravi Kishan (Ravindra Shukla), Jagdish Sheter, and Thirumavalavan Tholkappian. Members of Rajya Sabha include Shaktish Singh Gohil, Prem Chand Gupta, Mujibulla Khan and Sudhanshu Trivedi.
The mandate of the committee involves reviewing defense budget, procurement policies and strategic principles.
With a mixture of experienced politicians and dynamic newcomers, the panel is expected to play an important role in shaping India’s defense priorities amid global challenges.
The inclusion of data like Rahul Gandhi and Kamal Haasan underlines the intention of promoting the inclusion of Parliament and informing the dialogue on national security, reducing political partitions and drawing on diverse expertise to strengthen India’s defense structure.
