Kolkata, 1 October (IANS) Bamli Roy, former Forest Minister of West Bengal, died on Wednesday, during the previous left front. He was 85 years old.
His family members said that the deceased ministers were suffering from age related diseases for a long time. Apart from being the forest minister of the state, Roy was also a five -time CPI (M) MLA from Dhupguri constituency in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal from 1977 to 1996.
For a brief period, Roy also worked as the Minister of the then State Backward Classes Welfare and Tribal Development Department, which is currently known as the State Tribal Development Department.
In addition to organizing ministerial portfolio, Roy also worked as the District Council President for Jalpaiguri district during his later phase. In addition, he organized important organizational positions in CPI (M) including the zonal secretary of the party.
The local leadership of the left front visited the former minister’s residence in Gadong after receiving the news of his death. Jalpaiguri District Secretary of CP (M), Piyush Mishra expressed his condolences. Another former CPI (M) MLA from Dhupguri, Mamta Roy also visited the residence of the late minister.
Biman Basu, president of the left front in West Bengal, expressed his condolences to Roy’s death.
The fellow party leaders of their time recalled that Roy was a completely ground -level person, who maintained regular talks with the voters of Dhupguri assembly constituency even during his ministerial tenure, from where he was a five -time elected MLA, without defeating without defeating even once.
Even as a district council president of Jalpaiguri, he was equally dedicated to his work. As an organizational person, he regularly in touch with party workers at all levels.
Banmali Roy was an older generation and red-in-in-vool communist, for whom the decision of the party leadership was also the ultimate, and so he quietly took any assignments given to him by the party, recalled the experienced CPI (M) leaders of his district.
