6 prisoners escape from Tripura Jail after injuring guards with sharp weapons

Officials said AARAartala, October 1 (IANS) six prisoners – five undertriate prisoners and a convict – ran away from a jail in Tripura in Wednesday hours, said the officials said.

An official of the Northern Tripura district administration said that six prisoners, one of whom, was serving life imprisonment, ran away from Dharmanagar sub-Jail in Kalikapur after attacking a guard with sharp weapons.

The incident occurred when the jail personnel brought the prisoners out of their cell for breakfast and their daily decomposition.

The injured jail staff Bedu Mia is currently undergoing treatment at Dharmanagar District Hospital and his condition is now stable.

Officials said that soon after the incident, a large -scale search operation was started by various teams of security forces and hunting for six men is still going on.

North Tripura District Superintendent of Police Avinash Kumar Rai also led a search teams. All police stations and security posts in North Tripura and Unacoti districts were alerted.

“We have requested the Border Security Force to maintain a strict vigilance along the Indo-Bangladesh border so that the prison prisoners who could not cross the border,” said an official.

The northern Tripura district shares inter-state borders with Assam and Mizoram besides an international border with Bangladesh.

“All exit points with Assam, Mizoram and Bangladesh have been sealed after the incident to prevent the state from leaving the state,” the official said.

The escaped undertrier prisoners are Abdul Pata, Rahim Ali, Narayan Chandra Dutta, Rosan Ali, and Nazim Uddin, while serious crimes accused Sunil Debbarma, including murder, are serving life imprisonment.

Narayan Chandra Dutta is a Bangladeshi citizen who was first arrested in Tripura under passport and other acts, while Abdul Pata is a resident of Nilambajar in Sribhumi district (first Karimganj district) of Assam.

Abdul Pata was earlier arrested under drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 for involvement in cases related to illegal drugs.
