Action against Sonam Wangchuk on the basis of reliable input and documents: Ladakh administrator

New Delhi, October 1 (IANS) The Ladakh administration said on Tuesday that the allegations of victims of individuals, especially Sonam Wangchuk, are baseless, as the action against them (Sonam Wangchuk) is based on reliable inputs and documents.

In an official statement, the administration dismissed the allegations as “baseless”, claiming that the action taken by the law enforcement agencies is based on reliable inputs and documents.

The statement said, “There is no question of the witch-shikar or smoke screen,” it urges that the investigation be allowed to move forward fairly.

The administration highlighted the ongoing investigation into financial irregularities and foreign exchange violations by the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIL).

It claimed that Hial is releasing the degree, despite not having a recognized university, is releasing the future of the students. Additionally, the institute failed to disclose foreign funds in its financial descriptions.

The statement also resolved SECMOL’s cancellation of FCRA registration, citing several violations.

Officials insisted that the legal avenues for the organization are open to appeal for the decision.

Regarding Sonam Wangchuk’s recent hunger strike and public statements, the administration accused him of making stimulating comments, including references to Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, and instigated the youth against peaceful methods allegedly. It also cited a video of June 2025 on its YouTube channel, where Wangchuk allegedly spoke of a “Arab Spring” -Style Revolution and suggested self -immlation as protest.

The administration criticized Wangchuk’s conduct during the Ansan protest, stating that it failed to calm the crowd and when the tension increased, he left the site in a judicious manner.

It further mentioned that the government had announced the date of the meeting with the Ladakh leaders and expressed flexibility. Nevertheless, Wangchuk continued his hunger strike, which the administration described and inspired politically.

The statement confirmed that Aadhaar was duly served in Wangchuk for custody and appealed to calm down, emphasizing the need to take their courses.

“We are confident that together we will bring back the general position in the peace-lover Leh Township and continue with our dialogue process,” said this.

The administration said that during an interview on September 11, 2025 at NDS Park, he said that the youth claim that they do not want peace and Mahatma Gandhi’s path is not necessary. People are not afraid of the security forces deployed, and this can happen if people get spoiled.

It said that before starting his Ansan, Sonam Wangchuk suggested (sept 09, 2025) that people wear masks, caps and hoodie, etc., while participating in protest, quoting Kovid as an excuse, although there is no sign of the spread of Kovid in Ladakh.
