Priyanka Gandhi asks a collective solution for a man-neimal struggle in Wayanad

Wayanad, September 30 (IANS) Congress General Secretary and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi has reiterated the immediate need for joint efforts to address the growing human-cum-struggle in the district, which is one of the most pressure issues of their constituency.

During his recent visit to Wayanad, during his visit to Muthga Wildlife Sanctuary, he Dr. Arun met Zacharia and forest officials to understand the ongoing mitigation measures.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Gandhi said that Dr. Zacharia’s widespread experience with wild animals, forest and related issues was important for the management of crisis.

He said that his knowledge, combined with the efforts of forest officials, played an important role in understanding the intricacies of struggle and preparing practical solutions.

The MP was informed about the use of Kumki elephants – trained elephants were deployed to remove wild trackers that wander into human settlements – as a significant part of the reaction mechanism.

Gandhi wrote, “Their role is important in reducing damage and preventing tragedies when elephants cross into settled areas,” Gandhi wrote.

Wayanad, known for its rich biodiversity and wide forest areas, has seen the increasing incidence of human-west encounters in recent years.

Wandering elephants and other animals have damaged crops and property, while human casualties are also leading.

Due to such incidents, many people have lost their lives in the district, which increases the demand for widespread anxiety and strong preventive measures.

Gandhi, who has already raised this issue in the Lok Sabha, said that the problem cannot be solved in separation.

The intervention of the MP is expected to add speed in the ongoing discussion on the safety of residents in the ecologically sensitive area and balance of protection with livelihood.
