Karur Stamped Case: TVK’s Anand, Nirmal Kumar transferred Madras HC for an expected bail

Chennai, 30 September (IANS) Tamilga Vatri Kazgam (TVK), General Secretary Anand and Joint General Secretary Nirmal Kumar approached the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court, demanding anticipatory bail regarding the September visit during 41 lives during a campaign.

The tragic incident came to light near Karur in Veliyotapalayam, where thousands of supporters gathered to see Vijay.

As the crowd moved forward, suddenly there was a crush, which included 41 people, in which women and children, dead and many others were injured.

The police registered cases under five sections, pose a threat to human life and include public orders against TVK officials Anand, Nirmal Kumar and Karur West District Secretary Mathiazhagan.

While Mathiazhagan was arrested on Monday, another TVK executive, Masi Poonraj, was allegedly detained on Tuesday to give shelter. Police teams continue searching for the remaining accused.

In his petitions, Anand and Nirmal Kumar said that the tragedy was the result of “police and administrative lapse” rather than any defect of the organizers.

He alleged that the officials failed to ensure adequate mob control and did not allocate a safe site for the rally. Anand said that TV leaders were “targeted to cover the government’s failures”, and urged the court to save them from arrest.

Petitions will be heard on Friday, 3 October.

The state government first formed a member inquiry commission, headed by retired judge Justice Aruna Jagadisin to investigate the circumstances leading to the tragedy.

Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed deep grief, announced compensation, and once the Commission promised new security guidelines for political and public functions after submitting its report.

CM Stalin said, “Our collective duty is to ensure that such an incident never happens again,” CM Stalin said, urging the public to spread the rejected claims.

Opposition leader Edappi’s. Palaniswami demanded a judicial inquiry and accused the DMK government of gross administrative failure.

Meanwhile, Vijay himself visited the grieving families and promised Rs 20 lakh as each relief as a mourning to the heart of his supporters. Karur Stamped has triggered a widespread political storm, with parties of trade allegations, while the families of the victims wait for justice and safe protocols for future public programs.
