New Delhi, 30 September (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his final honor to BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra on Tuesday, who died on Tuesday.
Born in Lahore in December 1931, Malhotra died at the age of 93. His mortal remains were placed at his residence, where the Prime Minister arrived to give his condolences. Later, mortal remains will be brought to the Delhi BJP office to pay the final honor.
Meanwhile, BJP national head JP Nadda, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with several senior party leaders were present.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi expressed grief over Malhotra’s death, called him a “excellent leader”, who had a good understanding of people’s issues.
In a post on X, PM Modi posted, “Mr. Vijay Kumar Malhotra ji distinguished himself as an excellent leader who had a very good understanding of people’s issues. He played an important role in strengthening our party in Delhi. He is also remembered for his parliamentary interventions. He suffered from his passing.
Malhotra served as a five -time MP from Delhi and a two -time MLA. He served as President of Delhi Pradesh Jana Sangh (1972-75) and President of BJP Delhi Pradesh (1977-80, 1980-84) twice.
In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Malhotra was the only BJP candidate to win his seat in Delhi.
According to Delhi BJP, Malhotra had an active career in politics, as well as Kedar Nath Sahni and Madan Lal Khurana. The party also credited Malhotra to preserve the BJP in Delhi for many years.
The profile of Malhotra in the BJP in Delhi states, “His biggest political victory is considered to be defeated by former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh by a big margin in the 1999 Indian general election.”
The party further mentioned that in the last 45 years, Malhotra’s work in Delhi made him “one of the most senior BJP figures in the capital”.
