60 crore victim drugs seized in Tripura

Officials said on Monday that Agartala, 29 (IANS) Assam Rifles have seized drugs worth Rs 60 crore in Tripura.

A defense spokesperson said that in a decisive crack on the threat of drugs, a successful operation was carried out at the border of Mohanpur regions of West Tripura district.

60.77 kg of restricted Mathemfetamine tablets were recovered due to the operation.

He said that this achievement once again underlines the tireless commitment of ‘North East’s Sentinel’, which is to curb the trade of illegal drugs and to save the youth from this dangerous threat during the Durga Puja ceremony.

A police officer said that smuggled drugs from Myanmar and Tripura through Mizoram and Assam were brought to the neighboring Bangladesh for smuggling.

Tripura, which has an 856 km border with Bangladesh, is surrounded by the three sides by the neighboring country, which makes the northeast state across the border, sensitive and sensitive to issues of various crimes, illegal trade and movement.

The Chief Minister responded to the questions of Congress MLA Sudeep Roy Burman and CPI-M MLA Sudeep Sarkar in the state assembly, saying that in addition to arresting 2,729 drugs pedallers during the last three financial years (2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25), now 28 more illegal medicines are sought.

CM Saha, who also holds the portfolio of the Home Department in a written answer, said that under the drug drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, the sentence was 11.7 percent in 2022 and five percent in 2023 and 2024.

Following the order of the courts, the High Level Drug Disposal Committee and the State Level Drug Disposal Committee destroyed and burnt the drugs seized in the east-lady places, the Chief Minister said.
