Gondia, September 29 (IANS) NCP Executive President Praful Patel said on Monday that even though the NDA and Mahayuti will contest the Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections together, the local and civilian civic elections are separate, and party workers are aspiring to fight them.
He said that the local units will decide whether to go to a single or coalition.
“Party workers nurture the aspirations to fight local elections. NDA and Mahayuti have fought the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections together and will continue to do so. It is not possible to form an alliance everywhere. Therefore, we have asked the local leadership to finalize the decision (coalition) in the local civic elections.”
He said that the aspirations of party workers will guide the local election strategy.
The three parties of the ruling Mahayuti, ie the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena and NCP, are claiming that they will face the upcoming local body elections together. However, NCP has now made it clear that this decision will not be implemented from top to party employees. Patel insisted that the three parties in Mahayuti are working in coordination.
“Important leaders have good coordination and speak unitedly. Therefore, it is not a state or central government, there is no lack of coordination in the functioning,” he said.
Last week, the opposition Congress also announced whether it would ask the local leadership of the party to call in an alliance to contest the election.
On the ongoing flood crisis in Maharashtra, Patel insisted that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde have visited the flood affected areas, sent a report to the Center, and requested assistance.
He said that all NCP MLAs and MPs have contributed to one month’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
