Chandigarh, September 28 (IANS) Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar, along with the arrest of two of his operatives, has busted a smuggling module of cross-border drugs along with Pakistan’s link and recovered 4 kg of heroin from their possession, said the Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said here on Sunday.
Those arrested have been identified as Akashdeep Singh, resident of Attari in Amritsar, alias Tony, and Pawanbir Singh, a resident of Basark Bhaini in Amritsar.
Apart from recovering the heroin, police teams have also deployed their hero Splendor motorcycles, which are being used by them to transport consignments.
DGP Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that both the arrested accused were identified as Rana King on the instructions of the smugglers in Pakistan, using drones to release drugs from across the border.
Sharing the operation details, he said that the teams of CI Amritsar had received specific information about the recovery of large amounts of drug consignments from the border area.
Acting fast, the police team laid a trap and the two suspects were given to the Chaharta-San Sahib Road in Amritsar near Mannu Hospital, when they were going to give consignment.
The DGP said that further investigation is going on to establish a relationship in this case to find out the entire module in this case. He said that there is a possibility of more arrest and recovery in the coming days.
Continuing war against drugs called “Yudh Nasian Veerukh”, the Punjab Police on Saturday raided 332 places, leading to the arrest of 66 drug smugglers after registration of 53 First Information Report (FIR) across the state.
With this, the number of total drug smugglers arrested has reached 31,145 in 210 days. As a result of the raid, 431 grams of heroin, 1,608 intoxicating tablets and capsules and arrested drug smugglers have recovered 42,250 drug money.
The state government has formed a 5-member cabinet sub-committee, headed by Finance Minister Harapal Singh Cheema to monitor the war against drugs.
