Police said they are working through “hundreds of lines investigating”, allegedly incorrectly as part of the funeral and fraud.
Two women, 37 and 55 years of age, and a 56 -year -old man was arrested in connection with the investigation and further interrogation continued.
Police said they have received reports from more than 70 people, but believe that a large number may be affected and may urge anyone to contact them in that situation.
Detective Superintendent Robert Bovi said: “It is an unprecedented investigation for the police Scotland and one of the biggest ongoing financial interrogation.
“I want to assure the public, we have a dedicated team that is working through the investigation of hundreds of lines.
“Although the work we are doing cannot be visible, we are committed to a thorough investigation.”

Mr. Bovi said that the “vast majority” of complaints belongs to the alleged fraud prepaid funeral schemes.
He said that most of the funerals recovered from the last one meeting complex have been returned to the families, but a “small amount” is unclaimed.
The detective said: “In the context of the remains performed by some funeral in the previous campus used by the independent funeral directors, we have been able to return the vast majority of those people for family members or deal with them in terms of their family’s wishes.
“As it stands, there are still a small amount of funeral remains that are unclaimed and unknown, and that is what we want to get through the traditional lines of investigation.”
People from the Financial Investigation Unit, including expert officers, are involved in the investigation.

Victim Support Scotland Chief Executive Officer Kate Wallace said: “To find out that your loved one would not have been taken care of, the way he wanted after his death is extremely upset and shocking.
“It, combined with additional possibility of fraud in relation to funeral plans, further adds up to an already disturbed and painful time.
“We have been closely monitoring the development and related investigations in England and Wales for some time, and are committed to ensure that the victims of this crime are capable of reaching the support services available to them.”
