Officials on Wednesday killed the 19 September prosecution by an armed group in Bishanupur district of Manipur to kill two Assam Rifle personnel, the prime accused of the ambush of 19 September (IANS).
A senior police officer said that a team of district police, Assam rifles and other security forces started a special operation on Wednesday after receiving specific information about the presence of armed terrorists in the Kamang region in the Emfel West District and caught Khomdram Ozit Singh Alias Keylon, 47.
In interrogation on the spot, he admitted that he is a bail-out member of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and said he still continues to work for an illegal outfit.
Khomdram also revealed that he was arrested earlier on 22 April 2007.
During further questions, it was discovered that he was directly involved in the ambush of Assam Rifles personnel in the Sabal Leicai Nambol areas in Bishanupur on 19 September.
After firing on para-civil personnel, he, along with other persons, ran towards Lake and hid his arms and ammunition at a secret place.
At his revelation, a large cash of weapons and ammunition used in ambush was recovered. The recovered weapons include A -4 rifle with four magazines, one HK rifle with two magazines, two AK Series Rifles as well as five magazines, one INS Rifle as well as three magazines, three legs, AK rifle, 170 rounds of ammunition, 170 rounds of ammunition, M -16 Ammunition, 216 Round Mammune, and 67 rounds.
The police officer said that a mobile handset, a wallet and an Aadhaar card were also recovered from the area.
He said that the examination of the arrested person is going on, and some leads have been set up.
The official said that raids are being conducted to catch the other convicts involved in the ambush.
