Raipur, September 24 (IANS) In a major success for peace and rehabilitation efforts in South Bastar, 71 Maoists, including 30 with total bounties of Rs 64 lakh, laid down arms on Wednesday and surrendered to officials under the major initiative of the Government of Chhattisgarh – Lone Vartu (rehabilitation).
The surrender cadres had 21 women and 50 men, many of whom were deeply involved in violent activities in the last decade.
The most prominent among them was Baman Madamkam, with a reward of Rs 8 lakh, who participated in several police-naxlites encounters in villages like Dugaguda, Ambeli, Velgadram and Gundam between 2011 and 2024.
Other notable surrender include: Shamila alias Somli Kaswasi (reward of Rs 5 lakh), Arsh and Bodga and Bodga involved in armed struggle, Gangi alias Rohini Barche (Rs 5 lakh reward), 2024 parades are connected to Encurrers, Madacam (prize of Rs 2 lakh), Marasam and Gogunda Danginpara Is.
The surrendered Maoists also accepted to participate in disruptive activities like road excavation, tree flying and publicity during the Naxalite closed weeks.

The surrender ceremony took place at the Police Office Superintendent in Dantewada, where the cadre was welcomed by a joint team of police and CRPF officers, including Commandant and other commanding officers 111th, 195th, 230th and 231st CRPF battalions.
Officials said special units such as DRG/Bastar Fighters and Dantewada and Jagdalpur’s special intelligence branch played an important role in persuading Maoists to give up violence and to re -organize the society.
Under the state’s rehabilitation policy, each surrender cadre will receive Rs 50,000 in financial assistance, as well as access to skill development programs, agricultural land and other aid services and ensure a dignified return in civil life.
This wave of surrender takes a significant step forward to restore peace and development in the extremist-affected areas of the settlement in the government’s mission.
