New Delhi, 24 September (IANS) held its historic meeting in Patna as the Congress Working Committee (CWC), senior leaders of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) of Bihar have rapidly criticized the move, called it a final attempt by the Congress to achieve relevance in the political landscape of the state.
Speaking to IANS, Bihar Vice President Vijay Kumar Sinha said that the Congress is trying to re -establish itself in Bihar before the 2025 assembly elections, but questioned the party’s intentions and time.
“Elections are coming to Bihar, and the Congress party is trying to claim its presence,” Sinha said.
“Democracy has been playing, and for several decades, the Congress was a stronghold in Bihar. However, during this time, he never felt the need to really engage with the people of Bihar. Now, to make a final effort and establish its identity, the Congress is trying to mark its presence with a new strategy.”
Meanwhile, Santosh Kumar Suman, minister and national president of Hindustani Awam Morch (secular) said that the Congress should reconsider its alliances in the state if it really wants to serve Bihar.
“If the Congress wants to serve the people of Bihar and do something for them, then it should be separated from those who involve incorrectly involving Bihar, defaming it and building iniquity,” Suman said, indirectly referring to a major Congress colleague Janata Dal (RJD) in the nation block.
The CWC meeting is being attended by more than 170 senior leaders, including Congress President Mallikrajun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah (Karnataka), Revant Reddy (Telangana), and Sukhwinder Singh Suk (Hans). Major figures like Ashok Gehlot, Shashi Tharoor and Sachin Pilot are also part of the high-level meeting.
A symbolic site associated with the political heritage of Bihar, held at the historic Sadakat Ashram, is seen as a party’s attempt to re-create its image and strategy in the state, especially amid friction with RJD on seat-sharing within the India coalition.
While the Congress leaders frame the meeting as a step towards “saving democracy” and “rebuilding with Bihar”, the NDA has rejected it as a political posture with small substances.
As Bihar prepares for important elections, the Congress’s push for revival and the rapid criticism of the NDA is setting up a platform for an intensive political battle.
