Mizoram CM urged NHIDCL to give top priority to the major road link of the state

AIZAWL, 23 September (IANS) Mizoram Chief Minister Lulduhoma on Tuesday highlighted that a large number of national highways are in poor condition, pits and surface scratches appear in many parts.

An official of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said that the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of timely and proper repair during the contractor liability period. Lalduhoma on Tuesday held a meeting with various agencies and organizations including National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) – a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways – State PWD and Power and Power Department.

The Chief Minister also emphasized that when the new bypass roads are constructed, the existing roads passing through the towns should be handed over to the state PWD properly. He underlined that Mizoram’s lifeline, Isal -ware -ware Road (National Highway -6) should be given top priority.

The Chief Minister proposed to the Central Ministry to use rigid pavement for highway construction in Mizoram, which accelerated the road deteriorating, citing heavy rainfall and long monsoon season.

Stating that Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has already directed NHIDCL to investigate his proposal, the Chief Minister requested NHIDCL officials to expedite action on the matter.

CM Llduhoma also expressed concern about the Thingfala ‘T’ Baptist Church, which collapsed due to the impact of NHIDCL road cutting. NHIDCL officials said that the Deputy Commissioner’s office has assessed, which has been submitted to the project management unit, and further action will be sent to the NHIDCL headquarters.

In response to the Chief Minister’s request, Mizoram’s Regional Executive Director Edelbert Susangi said that all the issues raised by the Chief Minister would be chased as soon as possible. NHIDCL officials also informed the Chief Minister about the various challenges facing the work sites.
