Dri, customs operation targeted luxury car tax evasion, actors and other radars

Kochi, 23 September (IANS) In a large crack on luxury car tax evasion, officials associated with the Revenue Intelligence Directorate and Customs Directorate have started a nationwide operation, which is emerging as a major focus area with Kerala.

High-profile inspections are underway at 30 places in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Kozhikode and Malappuram districts.

Among the notable sites, actors are the residences of Prithviraj and Dullar Salman, which highlights the broad scope of operation.

Apart from this, there are radar high-profile people in Kerala.

However, the authorities, although they reached the actors’ homes, were unable to detect suspicious vehicles.

Customs officers are working closely with the motor vehicle department, doing thorough investigation into major car showrooms across the state.

According to officials, they will seize the vehicles, and the notice will be served to the people from whom vehicles are seized and they will be asked to produce related documents of vehicles. Investigations have revealed that eight types of high -end vehicles were imported into India through Bhutan, in which taxes were developed.

The scheme involves registering vehicles in Himachal Pradesh before transporting in different parts of India first, registration number often turns to hide their origin.

Officials emphasized that when the houses of high-profile individuals have attracted attention, the operation is organized and both showrooms and individual importers are suspected of tax evasion.

Luxury vehicles, given their high market value, are particularly prone to such illegal practices, which requires rigorous inspection.

Officials indicated that the ‘nominee’ operation would continue in several stages, focusing on documentation, registration processes and transport routes.

The inclusion of celebrity residences in inspections has attracted the attention of comprehensive media, but the authorities clarified that the operation is strictly procedural and is part of a nationwide effort to implement revenue security and compliance.

By combining district-wide checks, coordinating with state agencies, and checking high-value imports, the operation reflects the government’s determination to prevent refined tax evasion in the luxury automobile sector, while sending a clear message that no money is beyond the reach of the law.
