J&K Lg Manoj Sinha condoles demise of ford dgp

Srinagar, September 22 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha on Monday condemned the death of former Director General of J&K Police Ghulam Jilani Pandit.

Ghulam Jilani Pandit died on Sunday. He was 92 years old. In a condolence message, the Lieutenant Governor said: “Sadly sad to know about the death of Shri Ghulam Jilani Panditji, former DGP of Jammu and Kashmir.

“He will always be remembered for duties and dedication to service to the nation. My thoughts and prayers are in this hour of sorrow with my family and friends. I pray for the peace of the departed soul.”

Born on 22 February 1933. He was the 4th DGP of J&K and took office on 21 May 1987. The first DGP of J&K police was Ghulam Hasan Shah, who served from 25 May 1982 to January 1985.

Jilani Pandit was remembered as a gentleman by colleagues and well -wishers, who earned respect in the rank during his prestigious career in the police service.

Nalin Prabhat is the 17th head of the current DGP Police Force.

He has expressed deep grief over his death, along with all the ranks of Jammu and Kashmir Police. The force collectively mourned the loss, in this hour of grief offered hearty condolences and prayers to the bereaved family for strength.

In his tribute, the police officers described Pandit as a leader who adopted honesty and humility during his tenure, set an example to follow the generations of officers.

During his tenure as DGP from May 21, 1987 to December 20, 1989, Pandit navigated the complexities of law enforcement in the area passing through intensive political and social upheaval.

In particular, he was the last Kashmir-Moo DGP until the appointment of Kuldeep Khoda as DGP after a gap of 18 years, during which non-residents led the force.

Pandit is alive by his wife, a son and two daughters. His funeral prayer was held in Jamalta in Srinagar city.
