The CEC increases to visit Patna as speculation on Bihar assembly poll dates

Patna, September 22 (IANS) The atmosphere beyond the Bihar assembly elections is continuously heating up as the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Speculation on the declaration of poll dates has intensified with confirmation that Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanash Kumar will visit Patna in the last week of September to review the readiness.

ECI is ready to publish the final voter list on 30 September, after which the election schedule can be announced at any time.

During his visit, a detailed review meeting will be held with Election Officers to assess the CEC administrative system, voter list management and logistic preparations.

First, electronic voting machines (EVMs) will include colorful photos of party symbols as well as candidates, which aim to ensure more transparency and voters will help their candidates to identify more easily.

Based on previous trends, the Commission is expected to conduct elections in three to four stages, although the exact number will depend on safety and logical ideas.

This challenge is determined during the same period in the upcoming festival season, with Diwali and Chhath, which requires careful planning to avoid disruption for voters.

In 2020 Bihar assembly elections, voting was held in three phases – with the results declared on 28 October, 3 November and 7 November – 10 November.

In 2015, the elections were spread over five stages between October 12 and November 5.

In 2010, the elections were held in six phases, and the first phase was held on 21 October and concluded on 20 November.

In February 2005, Bihar witnessed a three-phase election, followed by another three-phase in October 2005.

The CEC travel indicates that the declaration of pole dates is adjacent, it is likely to be in early October.
