GST reform will work as catalyst, will inspire Indian economy: CM Yogi

Gorakhpur, September 22 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said the implementation of the next generation of goods and service tax (GST) reforms, saying that this step would promote investors and allow citizens to celebrate the festive season with more enthusiasm and happiness.

The Chief Minister, who was in Gorakhpur, met with local traders to mark the rollout of reform. Earlier in the day, he also held the Janata Darbar to hear public grievances.

Talking to reporters, he said, “Today is the first day of Shardia Navratri. The first form of Goddess Durga, Shailputri, is associated with the worship rituals of followers of Sanatan Dharma across the country. Kalash Stopana ceremony is being organized for Shardia Navri.

CM Yogi said, “By implementing the biggest improvement in GST so far, GST rate on general consumer goods has been reduced by 18 percent and 12 percent to 5 percent or 0 percent.”

He said that farmers and students will also benefit. Additionally, he said that a “significant relief” for drugs is also provided.

He said, “The GST rate for farmers, which feed the nation, has been reduced by 5 percent or 0 percent. The GST on student education material has been reduced to 12 percent,” he said.

Calling a catalyst for improvement, the Chief Minister said, “The reform will give a new incentive to the Indian economy. Average consumer will celebrate and celebrate with festivities and enthusiasm. Their purchasing power will increase.

He said that the Uttar Pradesh government has also launched a public outreach campaign to raise awareness about changes.

“Today, for this GST improvement, we are engaged with traders, customers and general consumers. We have come out for a public awareness program, and the same slogan is echoing everywhere: ‘Ghati GST, Gift, Gifts, Dhanyavad Modi government!’

Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitarman, CM Yogi concluded, “Every businessman, every consumer, and every citizen is celebrating their festivals with enthusiasm.
