Jammu -Kashmir Cabinet is likely to be recommended to meet the assembly on Tuesday.

Srinagar, 22 September (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, will meet here on Tuesday, and many important issues are expected to be decided. The cabinet is also likely to recommend that the Lieutenant Governor call the autumn session of the Legislative Assembly.

As per the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, there should be no difference for more than six months between the final meeting of a session and the first meeting of the next session of the Legislative Assembly.

“Lieutenant Governor, will call the Legislative Assembly to meet time -time, at this time and place, as he thinks fit, but will not intervene between his final seating in a session and his first sitting in the next session,” the Act says.

Since the final meeting of the previous session was held on 29 April, and according to the six -month rule, the next session should be held by 28 October.

The proceedings in the House on state and reservation issues are likely to dominate.

In the last assembly session, three proposals on the state were stopped due to the disintegration created by the National Conference following the rejection of the adjournment motion brought by its MLAs on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

In the last session, the issue of reservation in the house came frequently, in which Sajad Gani instigated the government on the matter.

The issue of arrest of MLA Doda, Mehraj Malik under PSA may also come during the autumn session of the assembly.

Jammu and Kashmir have a 90 -member Legislative Assembly, out of which 47 are from the valley and 43 are from Jammu Division.

The national conference is 42, BJP 29, Congress six, People’s Democratic Party Three, Awami Itatehad Party One, People’s Conference One, CPI (M) One, Aam Aadmi Party One and Six Independents.

Congress party MLAs, five independent and CPI (M) have supported the National Conference under Omar Abdullah.
