Kolkata, September 20 (IANS) to help West Bengal voters to have a first-hand and detailed information about polling booths, where they will be considered to include their voters in the important state assembly elections scheduled next year, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has started the process of creating a virtual and compressed data base.
An internal source in the CEO’s office said that database will work to know its allotted voting booths for voters in advance, given that, in the case of many existing and old voters, in the case of many existing and old voters, the booth number where they will casting their votes next year, may be separated from the booths voting last year.
This will happen because West Bengal is going for important assembly elections next year, which will increase the number of polling booths by about 17 percent compared to the two during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and 2021 West Bengal assembly elections.
Again, this will happen because the number of booths for the 2026 assembly elections will be with a network of over 94,000 booths, the number of booths in the previous elections will increase by 16.50 percent.
Explaining the reason behind the increase in the number of booths, an internal source of a CEO office said that as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), this time the total number of voters in the same booth should not exceed 1,200, and therefore, to adjust it, the number of booths was to increase.
“Therefore, the CEO’s office is preparing a detailed database to keep a clear record of the exact location, infrastructure, and older and new booths.
Database, Insider, added information such as other infrastructure conditions such as a ramp, a ramp and other facilities such as a ramp, a ramp and other infrastructure, and the number of entry points, along with other facilities such as a ramp, a ramp and toilets, and the number of entry points.
“The district and block level electoral administration will have a direct access to the database,” the inner source said.
