New Delhi, 20 September (IANS), a Delhi Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and his associate were arrested taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 from an employee of a recruitment agency in Mehrouli area of South Delhi, on Saturday, an official of the Vigilance Unit said.
Asi Pappu Ram Meena, Mehrauli was posted at the police station, and private person Mohammed. A statement said in a statement that Shakir was arrested on Thursday while taking bribe in exchange for leaving the complainant’s vehicle.
Police said the local resident of Mehraoli, who had a house near the LIC office in the colony, was working as a policeman’s drain to collect bribe money.
On 18 September, the complainant, a resident of Neb Sarai and working in a recruitment and placement company, approached the Vigilance Branch and said that on September 10, his two-wheelers were illegally taken to Meholi police station by ASI Meena.
The recruitment agency employee said in his complaint that ASI Meena allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant for the release of the bike.
The complainant said that on September 10, Meena snatched the vehicle after a minor dispute with a local property dealer.
During the dispute, a PCR call was obtained at the police station Mehrauli about a quarrel between the complainant with a person, and the case was assigned to ASI Meena for preliminary investigation, the statement said.
The call was settled by Meena with “inquiry off”. However, after preliminary investigation, Meena broke the lock of the complainant’s bike from his residence and snatched away.
The ASI demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant to issue its bike, the complaint said.
Following the complaint, a trap was laid by the Vigilance Unit at Police Station Mehrauli. Asi Pappu Ram Meena directed the complainant to hand over the first installment of Rs 5,000 to Shakir, the first installment of bribe money.
The vigilance team caught both Shakir and ASI Meena on Friday and received bribe money from the trapped policemen.
The statement said an FIR number 20/2025 and 308 (2)/3 (5) BNS was registered by the Vigilance Police Station on Friday under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
