Manipur ambush: Government announced pre-Gatia for Assam Rifle personnel

Officials said Imphal, September 20 (IANS) Manipur government on Saturday, announced a financial compensation for the family of two Assam Rifles personnel by unknown gunmen in Bishanupur district of the state and a financial compensation for five others.

Commissioner-cum Secretary (Home), N. Ashok Kumar said that in the recognition of the sacrifices made by the families of the deceased, the government has announced a pre-Rs 5 lakhs for those who injured injuries (deaths) and Rs 2 lakh, who faced serious injuries.

Additionally, the state government will expand all the necessary support during the medical treatment of injured youth and rehabilitation.

Kumar said in a statement that the Manipur government is deeply concerned about the recent incident of attack on Assam Rifle personnel on September 19 in which two personnel were martyred, while five others were injured.

The statement said, “The state government strongly condemns such incidents. The government expresses its deep condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this cowardly work and prayed for early recovery of the injured.”

Meanwhile, a serious wreath ceremony for brave soldiers was held, who lost their lives in a cowardly attack by unknown armed rebels.

A defense spokesperson said that the event was organized by Assam Rifles at the Viplo Tripathi training shed of Assam Rifles, which was to pay tribute to the martyrs of Assam Rifles in the Imphal West District on Saturday evening.

Two Assam Rifles personnel, including Naib-Sabdar, were killed and five others were injured when a group of unidentified armed cadres attacked a vehicle of paramilitary forces along with Imphal-Demapur National Highway (NH-2) in Nambol Sabal Leakai area of ​​Bishanupur district.

The defense spokesperson said that a column of soldiers of Assam Rifles was going from its Patoi company to the operating base of the Nambol company when it was ambushed by unknown terrorists on the highway in the represented area of ​​Manipur, ambush in the general area of ​​Nambol Sabal Leicai by ambush.

In the upcoming action, two Assam Rifle personnel were killed and five others were injured.

The spokesperson said that the injured personnel are now subject to medical treatment at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal, the spokesperson said they are currently stable.

The personnel of Assam Rifles killed Naib-Sabdar Shyam Gurung (59) and Rifleman Ranjit Singh Kashyap (36).

Gurung is from East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, while Kashyap is a resident of Bastar district of Chhattisgarh.

A solidarity march and protest against the Nathun attack on Assam Rifles were organized by Cookie-Zomi-Hamar and other tribal communities in Charachandpur.
