New Delhi, September 20 (IANS) In a major crack on organized theft, Delhi Police has arrested four members of an active gang of thieves working in the Mundka area, who is involved in stealing stars among street light poles, other things.
Arrest has recovered adequate amounts of eight criminal cases and recovery of sufficient amount of stolen public infrastructure content, including more than 130 kg of electrical wires, streetlight pole, iron grills and other items.
The matter began to appear on 15 September when a PCR call alerted the Mundka police that unknown persons were seen cutting the iron grills and poles installed in the nearby fields and loaded into a truck.
According to the police, when the complainant faced the accused, he was attacked with bricks. The culprits escaped leaving the truck loaded with stolen items, leaving this scene. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered under various sections including 307 of the Joint Code of India (BNS), and the abandoned vehicle was seized for investigation.
A special police team was formed to handle the case to work under the supervision of Inspector Gulshan Kumar Gupta, Police Station Mundka’s SHO, and ACP Naresh Kumar Solanki.
Through detailed CCTV footage analysis and vehicle tracking, the police detected the registration of the truck to a woman living in Jahngirpuri. On inquiring, he revealed that the truck was hired by a local person named Rahul. A rapidly raided at his residence, where he attempted to escape, but was caught by the team.
During interrogation, Rahul confessed to theft and provided information about his three colleagues, Amar, Akash, and Anil, who were all residents of Jahngirpuri. Later raids were conducted, which led to his arrest. The accused was produced before the court and sent to police custody for two days.
Further investigation revealed that the gang had hidden additional theft property in a warehouse in Bhalwa Dairy. Acting on this intelligence, the police recovered a lower part of a streetlight poll, 134 kg stolen electric wires, several iron grills, a water motor and an air conditioner compressor.
The recovered items were associated with several FIRs registered in PS Mundka. In the cases solved, there are FIR number 439/25 and seven e-FIRs registered between August and September 2025.
Confirming the arrest and recovery, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outside District), Sachin Sharma, IPS, an official press release stated, “The police team has successfully cracked a network involved in the mass theft of public infrastructure. With the arrest of four accused and recovery of stolen items, eight criminal cases have been identified.”
The accused have been identified as Rahul (22), Amar (21), Akash (19), and Anil (19). All four are being questioned further to highlight the full scope of the gang operation. Police say that the investigation can follow more arrests and recovery as the investigation proceeds.
This operation is a significant success for the External District Police in tightening the public property and the necessary infrastructure targeting organized theft.
