New Delhi, a major development for the paramilitary leadership of India 19 September (IANS), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved two high-profile appointments in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
These decisions come as the current heads of both forces, preparing to retire at the end of September 2025.
1993 batch IPS officer Praveen Kumar of West Bengal cadre has been appointed as the new Director General of ITBP.
He currently serves as a special director in the Intelligence Bureau and will take over the reins from the 1989 batch IPS officer Rahul Rasgotra of Manipur cadre, who is ready to retire on September 30.
Kumar’s term will extend to his supernation on 30 September, 2030 or till further orders.
Known for his strategic skills and deep experiences in intelligence operations, Kumar expects India’s Himalayan borders to focus a sharp focus on the ITBP’s border management and counter-engineers’ efforts.
Meanwhile, the 1993 batch IPS officer of Agmut Cadre, Praveer Ranjan has been elevated to the post of Director General of CISF.
Ranjan currently holds the post of Special Director General in the same force and he will succeed in the 1990 batch IPS officer of Bihar cadre, Rajwinder Singh Bhatti, who retired on 30 September.
Ranjan’s appointment will be effective by July 31, 2029, his supernation date, or further orders.
With a strong background in industrial safety and public safety, Ranjan is expected to increase the growing role of CISF in protecting important infrastructure and high-value assets across the country.
These appointments reflect the government’s commitment to ensure continuity and operational excellence in India’s two most important security forces.
The official notification was issued by Sakshi Mittal, under the Ministry of Director, personnel, public grievances and pension in the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
As the baton goes to these experienced officers, both ITBP and CISF have been designed for a new chapter in the leadership, marked by experience, stability and strategic foresight.
