Gandhinagar, September 19 (IANS) Gujarat government has issued pre-infinite orders for more than 1.92 lakh farmers for the purchase of tractors and other farm machinery.
From this year, farmers are eligible for financial assistance of up to Rs 1 lakh on tractor procurement. The state budget has allocated Rs 800 crore for tractors – last year’s provision – and Rs 590.98 crore for other machinery, more than double the last allocation.
In the last decade, the Gujarat government has supported Rs 1,542 crore for tractors and 3.24 lakh farmers with 3.79 lakh farmers, which for other machinery with Rs 1,238 crore, to assist more than Rs 2,780 crore.
Agriculture remains a major driver of India’s economy, and modern machinery such as tractors, rotavator, power tiller, combine harvesters, ploses and threshers have changed traditional animal-powered equipment to a large extent. While these devices reduce manual labor, high market prices have often excluded them out of reach for many farmers.
Under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the state government has implemented several schemes to provide financial assistance to farmers in all categories for machinery procurement. This year, Gujarat’s budget has seen the highest increase in allocation for tractor procurement, which aims to assist 80,000 farmers with Rs 800 crore – double the allocation of last year.
In addition, funds for other tractor-operated machinery, including alliance harvester, power tiller, rotavator, automatic ornis, ploses and threshers, are more than doubled from double the provision of the previous year.
So far, pre-infusing orders for tractor procurement have been issued to around 76,000 farmers, with 1,16,700 farmers receive pre-infinite for other agricultural equipment. Overall, the state has provided pre-inflammatory for more than 1.92 lakh farmers for the purchase of tractors and other machinery.
Since 2011-12, the central government has provided financial assistance up to 40 PTO horsepower for the purchase of tractors, with 25 percent of tractor costs or Rs 45,000 and 40 to 60 PTO for horsepower tractors, 25 percent or 60,000 of the cost, which is less.
From 2025-26, this support has increased, which can receive 25 percent of the tractor costs or Rs 1 lakh, whichever is less.
With these measures, the Gujarat government has continued to encourage modern, mechanized farming, ensuring that farmers have access to advanced equipment to improve productivity and efficiency by reducing manual labor.
