Six arrested for attacking policeman in Netaji Nagar area of ​​Kolkata

Kolkata, 19 September (IANS) A policeman was beaten up while trying to stop an anarchy in Netaji Nagar area in South Kolkata.

On Thursday, a sub-encoder of the local police station reached the said area after receiving information about a gathering of miscreants with arms in front of a lawyer’s house.

When he tried to bring the situation under control, the miscreants attacked him. Police on Thursday arrested six people in connection with the incident.

According to the police, the local police station on Wednesday night received information that about 8 to 10 miscreants had gathered in front of a lawyer named Dipyan Ghosh, a resident of Netaji Nagar.

The miscreants were allegedly carrying knives and other weapons.

He was allegedly threatening the lawyer who is also the Trinmool Youth President of Ward 99 in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) area.

On receiving the news of the commotion, the local police station reached the place with sub-inspector Dinabandhu Kesh as well as the constables. When he tried to bring the situation under control, the miscreants allegedly attacked the policeman.

The injured sub-deaf was bleeding in the attack by miscreants. According to police sources, the crook group was led by a person named Jayant Ghosh.

In addition, many women were also in groups. When the police tried to arrest the miscreants, it is alleged that the women disrupted the police personnel.

After the scuffle, three miscreants were arrested on the spot, while Jayant Ghosh fled. A few minutes later, Ghosh and his colleagues created an uproar inside Baga Jatin State General Hospital, attacking the medical staff and an on-duty doctor.

The police reached the hospital and during this second round of scuffle, the miscreants attempted to attack the authorities with a surgical instrument, which was before the dominance.

Three more persons, including Jayant Ghosh, were arrested from the hospital, leading to six arrests in the incident.

A senior Kolkata Police official said, “A total of six persons have been arrested for assaulting a policeman and threatening a lawyer. We are investigating the case.”

A Suu Motu case has been registered against the arrest at Netaji Nagar Police Station and an investigation has started.
