The complaint was filed by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Media Department Chairman Bedbrarta Bora at the Display Police Station.
It accuses BJP’s state social media team of “criminal conspiracy, promoting enmity and violating the code of conduct”.

According to the Congress, a video uploaded on 15 September under the title “Assam without BJP” estimates a perverted version of the state, suggesting that if the BJP was excluded from power, Assam would be Muslim-prone.
The video allegedly claimed that Muslims created 90 percent of the population, with the allegedly manipulated figures of meat shops, liquor sales and Islamic motifs.
The alleged video gave captions such as “Choose your vote carefully”, which the Congress said that its purpose was to prevent fear among voters.
The Congress also alleged that the BJP’s social media machinery had previously broadcast similar materials, which also included a video posted on 12 September.
It also cited new examples of edited video appearing on platform X this week, depicting illegal immigrants to Guwahati sites such as airports, Nehru Stadium and historical color Ghar Amphetheater.
The video allegedly captioned such as “we don’t let this dream come true”.
The Congress urged the police to order a forensic inquiry, seize the equipment from the BJP’s social media department, and direct social media platforms to remove the material under the provisions of the IT Act, 2000.
It also demanded the intervention of the Election Commission for the alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
Reacting to the controversy, Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi said: “BJP’s IT cell is trying to spread fear and division, but such a propaganda cannot be given to Assamese society. Assam is entitled to politics that do not uplift.”
