Karnataka police arrested two to slaughter cows, dump dead bodies in the forest

Officials said on Thursday that Karwar, (Karnataka) September 18 (IANS) Karnataka Police arrested two persons to kill cows and dump their bodies in a forest area in Bhatal city in Karwar district.

The pair known as Mohammad Saman (19) and Mohammad Raheen (20), based on a complaint filed by a forest officer, was identified as the residents of Bhatkal.

Accordingly, a crime was registered at the Bhatkal Shah Police Station under the prevention of Karnataka of slaughter and protection of the Cattle Act, 2020.

Police have seized the vehicle used in crime. Both the accused have been produced before the court and sent to judicial custody.

Action was taken after a complaint lodged by Bhatkal Sub Division Forest Officer Maruti.

In his complaint, the forest official said that around 2 pm on September 11, the accused entered the banned Mugdam Colony Gudde forest area after slaughtering the animal and dumped cow’s body parts including skin, horn and bones.

On the basis of the complaint, the Bhatkal Shah Police registered an offense under Section 4 (12) of Karnataka and protection of the slaughter and protection of the Cattle Act, 2020, as well as a crime under Section 329 (3) of the BNS Act.

Police teams were formed to locate the accused, who were later arrested. The Karwar Superintendent of Police appreciated the police for resolving the case and catching the accused.

Officials and citizens in the state are constantly making efforts to stop the slaughter of cows.

In August 2025, 49 cows were saved from slaughter near the Bengaluru border and later shifted to a ‘Goshla’.

In June 2024, more than 100 cows and oxen were saved from slaughter in Bangalore during Bakerid, in operation supported by organizations such as Gau Gyan Foundation.

The Kanakandi police of Mangaluru district arrested three people in connection with the cattle theft reported on 13 September.

Police Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Reddy said that a cow was stolen from a Umesh Alva’s house in Tajipodi in Adir. The Kingdi Town Police detected the stolen cow and arrested the three persons in this regard as Shabaz Ahmed of Adir, Mohammad Suhan of Arkula and Valchil Khadher Mohammad alias Koli Monak.
