‘Petition by industrialists against the return of Bengal government’s incentive scheme was unavoidable’

Kolkata, September 17 (IANS) Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Suvendu Adikari on Wednesday noticed that the decision to contact the Calcutta High Court against the state government’s decision by a group of industrialists was indispensable to cancel an industry incentive scheme in the state.

The said scheme, to offer encouragement by the state government, was introduced by the previous Left Front Government under the leadership of the former Chief Minister of West Bengal in the financial year 2001-02, under the leadership of the late Buddhadeb Bhattacharji, and the main objective of the scheme was to encourage industrial investment in the state.

However, in March this year, the state government passed a bill in the State Legislative Assembly, which was named in the nature of the grant and incentive bill, 2025, the disposal of West Bengal incentive schemes and obligations was named, through which the existing industries in the state were encouraged for so long.

Earlier this week, a group of industrialists approached the Calcutta High Court against the decision to cancel the incentive on the basis that the state government’s decision was “unconstitutional”.

All parallel petitions in this case by various industrialists will be heard simultaneously by the Calcutta High Court in November.

On Wednesday, the Leader of the Opposition said that when the incentive was withdrawn, he called the decision “disastrous” and “unconstitutional”.

The Leader of the Opposition said on Wednesday, “This Drackian Bill passed in March 2025 due to TMC’s majority, despite the fierce opposition of BJP MLAs. TMC’s ego became strong and he shamelessly ended all industries incentives,”

“This is done in a wrong way to get out some of the remaining industries in West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee’s government is turning our state into an industrial cemetery, cheating businesses that have trusted West Bengal and created employment for our people. The opposition claimed.
