Vijaypura, September 17 (IANS) Reported by Vijaypura district of Karnataka, the delight bank robbery has raised the concerns of law and order in the state.
Commenting on the incident, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Wednesday that he has instructed the police to take preventive measures to avoid such incidents in future.
Speaking to reporters in Kalaburagi, CM Siddaramaiah said, “Regarding robbery and security concerns at SBI Bank in Vijaypura, it is said that the car used in robbery has already been detected, and the District SP has been directed.
CM Siddaramaiah said, “It is the responsibility of individual banks to appoint security personnel, while the police provides overall security. In future, police have been instructed to take preventive measures to avoid such incidents.”
The Darling Bank robbery took place on Tuesday evening at SBI Bank branch in Chadchan in Vijaypura district.
Initial investigation has revealed that the robbers removed Rs 1 crore in cash and 20 kg from the bank with gold articles.
An official statement about the cash and gold amount looted by the bank has not been released yet.
Police investigation revealed that the accused ran towards Pandarapura in the neighboring state of Maharashtra.
After committing the crime, they fled using various routes. However, the robbers left the car used in the middle of theft in a village after entering the dead-end road.
Police said the robbers threatened the bank employees and customers with a country-made pistol, looted cash and gold, and took them away in the bag.
Around 4 pm, one of the robbers – a masked man entered the bank and stayed inside the arrival of his colleagues. It is suspected that he was constantly watching the bank for a few days, observing and identifying prominent places.
Around 6 o’clock, the gang of robbers entered the bank. Meanwhile, two robbers were waiting outside, while others tied the hands and feet of employees and customers inside the bank before committing robbery. The robbers are expected to be between 20 and 30 years old.
As soon as the news of the bank robbery spread like wildfire, the customers arrived at the bank on Wednesday morning to verify and confirm whether their gold jewelery pledged for debt and kept in a locker, safe or taken away. Many elderly women and others were seen arguing with security guards and bank employees, who were demanding to meet the manager.
The police have further investigated.
