AARAartala, 17 September (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday urged people to honor cleanliness workers, saying that they play an important role in keeping cities and areas clean and clean.
Starting a fortnight—state-level cleanliness hi Seva (SHS) program at the famous Rabindra Satbarshiqi Bhavan, the Chief Minister said that cleanliness workers are important for community health and welfare and should be shown the same honor as frontline workers, recognizing their significant contribution in maintaining cleanliness and public health.
CM Saha reported that out of 765 ODF (open defecation free) villages, 762 villages were classified as ODF Plus model villages and is an important achievement.
“Tripura was appreciated nationally for its solid and liquid waste management performance,” he said.
The 9th edition of SHS 2025 started across the country on Wednesday on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday.
From Wednesday, the campaign will end on 2 October on the birth anniversary of Gandhi Jayati and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
The 15-day campaign aims to raise millions of millions across the country in a collective call for action for high-effect cleanliness drive.
Started jointly by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, to bring the SHS 2025 citizens, communities and institutions together, to run visual hygiene on the ground, to focus on the cleanliness target units-dors, dirty, and neglected places.
Addressing the meetings, the Chief Minister said that five rural plastic waste management units are already in the state and more will be established in the coming days.
While urging people to spend at least one hour a day in cleaning during the SHS fortnight, they emphasized the need to include students and youth in the program.
“Through various events, awareness of waste hygiene and proper management should be generated, including debate and painting competitions and cultural works,” said CM Saha.
Kishore Burman, Minister of Higher Education, Panchayat and General Administration, Deepak Mazumar, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, was among the other dignitaries present in the event.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister congratulated the Prime Minister on his 75th birthday through various social media platforms.
