Munnar (Kerala), September 17 (IANS) An elderly tribal person suffered from high fever to over six km to its shoulders by community members, for six hours through dense forest in Idukki district of Kerala, in the nearest medical facility, which highlights the rapid reduction of healthcare in remote tribal areas.
According to a report, the 64 -year -old patient, identified as Malayapan from Kudika Basti in Idamalakkudi Tribal Tribal Belt, is now recovering in the Hospital of the Manchulam government, according to a report.
Malayapna had been struggling with a serious fever for two days when his condition deteriorated on Tuesday morning, which made him very weak to walk.
In a frustrated attempt to save him, his fellow community members took him to Anakulam through a difficult forest area on his shoulders, where an ambulance was arranged to take him to the nearest hospital.
The incident underlines insufficient medical infrastructure in the Idamalakkudi region, which is governed by a tribal local body.
While a primary health center operates in Societycudi, residents in more remote areas such as Jumplar and Meenkuthi are forced to travel through hard forest paths to reach there.
As a result, many people like close, although still far away, the option of traveling to Anakulam. This is not an isolated incident.
Last month, a five -year -old child from Jumplar Basti died of fever, which was followed by a similar attempt to transfer him to the hospital. The child was taken on foot to Anakulam and from there, he was shifted to Taluk Hospital in Adimali, but could not be saved.
Lack of proper road connectivity is a major challenge in the tribal belt. The use of the vehicle is limited to the route from Munnar to Society.
Beyond this point, the roads are in such a bad condition that only four-wheel-drive vehicles, mainly jeeps, can navigate them, making it almost impossible to reach the most isolated haemlet for ambulances.
