Washington, 16 September (IANS) In his first phone conversation in months, US President Donald Trump on Tuesday called Prime Minister Narendra Modi to greet his 75th birthday.
In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi called Trump his “friend” and thanked him for wishes.
“Thank you, my friend, President Trump, for your phone call and hot greetings on my 75th birthday. Like you, I am also committed to taking India-American wider and global partnership to new heights. We support your initiative to a peaceful resolution of Ukraine struggle,” PM Modi wrote.
The phone calls as the US assistant trade representative for South and Central Asia Brendon Lynch, who interacts with India’s Chief Trade Dialogue and the Ministry of Commerce of the Ministry and Special Secretary of Industry in Delhi.
Both sides called the discussions “positive”.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry covered the talks “various aspects of the trade deal in search of the dialogue” positive and further. ” It said that the two sides decided to “intensify efforts to achieve the initial conclusion of a mutually beneficial trade agreement.”
A phone call comes after President Trump’s announcement to resume business talks with India.
“I am happy to declare that India and the United States are continuing talks to remove trade obstacles between our two countries,” they posted on Truth Social on 9 September.
“I think there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both our great countries,” he said.
Trump also described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “very good friend” and said that he was “eager to speak with him in the coming weeks” in the coming weeks.
Reacting to Trump’s comments, PM Modi posted on X, confirming the strength of Indo-American relations and expressed confidence in the outcome of the ongoing trade dialogue.
PM Modi wrote, “India and America are close friends and natural partners. I am confident that our trade talks will pave the way to unlock the immense potential of Indo-US partnership.”
Sergio Gore, President Donald Trump candidate for the US Ambassador to India, also called New Delhi a “strategic partner” during the hearing of his Senate last week and promised to strengthen defense and economic relations with New Delhi.
Gore also revealed that India and America are close to a business deal.
He said, “We are actively interacting with Indians. We are not yet separated on a deal. In fact, they are interacting on the Nitti-Gritti of a deal,” he said.
