BJP leader Tarun Chugh took exception for Rahul’s confrontation with Punjab Police

Chandigarh, September 16 (IANS) A day after a day’s visit by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, a day after a day-long visit to flood-Hit Punjab, BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh said on Tuesday that Gandhi, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, should stop behaving like “Papu” in Punjab.

Taking a strong exception to his confrontation with the Punjab Police in a flood-hit area, where Gandhi wanted to cross the thorny fence, Chugh said that Rahul should have treated responsibly in a submerged area along the Indo-Pak border.

“When thousands of people are suffering due to floods, Rahul Gandhi should have announced a relief package, but he was dramatically in Punjab,” Chugh said in a statement, Gandhi has embarrassed the people of Punjab only by his visit.

The BJP leader said that it has become a habit of breaking all security protocols with Gandhi. “We already know that they have made private visits to the country and abroad, without sharing their movement with central security agencies.”

Appreciating the Punjab Police for not reducing Gandhi’s pressure, Chugh said that it was the Leader of the Opposition, who holds a constitutional office, respects the call of the uniform security forces. After returning from his secret travel abroad, Rahul was only for a photo-up in Punjab, which was shedding crocodile tears for the Marun families.

Another BJP leader, Pritpal Singh Baliawal targeted the Congress -ruled Karnataka to release his party’s government in Himachal Pradesh for the release of Rs 5 crore for flood relief and rehabilitation.

Banging the Leader of the Opposition, Baliawal wrote on X, “It is Punjab for photo-opes and it is Himachal Pradesh for financial assistance.” He said that none of the eight state governments of Congress and its coalition partners gave anything to Punjab.
