Married doctors accept to have sex with the nurse while the patient was anesthetic

Web Desk, 12/09/2025

A married doctor had sex with a nurse at an operating theater, while a patient was subject to anesthetic, a medical tribunal heard.

Dr. Suhail Anjum, 44, and anonymous nurse was caught in a “shocking position” by a “shocking” colleague in a hospital in Greater Manchester, which went to the pair.

Advisor anesthetist had asked another nursing colleague to monitor half the path of the patient through a process to take a comfortable break.

Instead, Dr. Anjum went to another operating theater at the Temside Hospital in Ason-Ein-Lin, where he had sex with a nurse C.

Representing Andrew Moloy, General Medical Council (GMC), he said that Dr. Anjum was an anesthetist for five cases at the Theater Five on 16 September 2013 and got out of the room during the third case.

He said, shortly thereafter, a nurse NT entered theater eight and “faced Dr. Anjam and Nurse C in a compromise position”.

Mr. Moloy said: “He looked at the nurse C on a performance with his underwear with his trousers around his knee area and Dr. Anjum was in the process of tying his trousers.

“The nurse NT was shocked and quickly went to the door to exit through the theater. Dr. Anjum returned to the theater five and left for about eight minutes before his return.

“It is true to say that when Dr. Anjum was absent from the theater, the patient was not damaged and the process went without further incident.”

He said that the nurse NT went to his line manager to report the case.

Before the case was opened by GMC, Dr. Anjum said that he did not dispute the facts of the case and admitted to being engaged in sexual activity with the nurse C and knew that he was “likely to be nearby” when he left his patient.

Dr. Anjum, after hearing the Medical practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS), told that he had left the Temside Hospital in February 2024 and had gone back to his original Pakistan since then.

But he said that he wanted to resume his career in the UK and promised that there would never be a repeat of “each error of decision”.

Giving evidence, Dr. Anjum said: “It was quite embarrassing, at least to say. I only have to blame myself.

“I let everyone go down, not only my patient and myself but also trust and how it will look.

“I disappointed my colleagues, who gave me a lot of respect.”

He said that it was “inappropriate” to ask the anesthetic nurse to cover for him and he also placed the nurse NT in a “strange position”.

He left: “But, the most important thing is that the patient. If my doctor went away without telling me … then it breaks me into pieces every day when I think about it.

“I have always set very high standard for myself because the job is my passion. I don’t know how and why it happened but I want I to reverse it.

“I forgive all the people involved in it with my honesty and I want it to have this right.”

Dr. Anjum said that the incident took place in January 2023 during the “stressful time” for his family after his youngest child was born.

He said: “Our daughter was born prematurely, with very little birth weight.

“My wife had a very painful delivery, it was a very stressful experience. We failed to join as a couple during that time.

“It took a toll at my personal life, my mental health and good, and my work in the hospital.”

The hearing in Manchester continues on Friday when the panels will listen to the submission on whether Dr. Fitness to practice Anjum is impaired due to misconduct.
