Crack on ‘Honor’ crime to be launched by the government

Web Desk, 26/08/202526/08/2025

New measures will be introduced to tighten the so-called “Honor-based” misuse, the government has announced.

Honor-based misuse (HBA) is inspired by the belief that a person has a shame for himself, his family or communityRelated crimes include female genital deformity, forced marriage and murder.

In 2021, 31 -year -old pregnant Pavzia Javed died when she was pushed by her husband from Arthur’s seat in Edinburgh after her husband decided to leave the wedding.

New statutory guidance and respect-based abuse will be brought to help combat a legal definition CrimeThe government has said.

The Home Office will see how broad this crime is, a community awareness campaign will be launched and teachers, police officers, social workers and health professionals will get more training under new policies.

Measures have been supported by expert organizations targeting respect-based misuse.

Ms. Javed’s mother Yasmin Javed has also welcomed the changes.

“As the mother of Favzia, I am glad that the government has heard our call for a legal definition of respect-based misconduct, and this change has been made in the memory of Favzia,” she said.

“I hope it will help many more people affected by HBA and ensure that many criminals of this misuse are properly recognized and addressed.”

home Secretary Yweet cooper Said: “All forms of respect-based abuse are disastrous offenses that can shatter life. There is no ‘respect’ in them.

“For a very long time, these crimes are often misunderstood by professionals, resulting in the victims they are entitled to.

“Don’t make any mistake – we will use everything at our disposal to ensure that criminals face justice and victims are preserved.”

The Minister of Jess Philips, security and violence against women and girls said: “These crimes can cause unimaginable, long -lasting physical and mental pain for their victims.

“They have no place in our society and we should do everything we can do to stop them.

“This begins with a clear definition of crime and guidance supported in the law so that the government can work hand to support the law enforcement and voluntary field victims that they deserve.

“It is also important that we understand the real scale and nature of these crimes in England and Wales.

“This will help us and our partners ensure that more victims are preserved and more criminals have to face time behind bars.”
