Srinagar, Aug 24: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday directed all departments to instruct to remain on high vigilance amid heavy rains, which surround the wide parts of the union region.
He has advised people to be vigilant amidst the forecast of cloudbers, flash floods and the possibility of landslides in high altitude areas by 27 August amidst the forecast of the liberal rains for moderate rains.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister’s office said that Abdullah has directed all departments to stay on high alert, as heavy rains have caused waterlogging in many residential areas, in which rivers and Nallah are flowing above the danger mark.
The Chief Minister said, “Control rooms are active and are in contact with the CM office departments. Priority is being given to restore essential services like drainage and water supply and electricity in the affected areas. People are advised to be vigilant,” the Chief Minister said.
Officials said heavy rains beat most parts of Jammu and Kashmir overnight, causing flood-like conditions in many low-lying areas and damage to an important bridge on the Jammu-Matkot National Highway, the officials said.
