DC Bandipora Review Monkey Menus; Crops, seek joint action for safety of villages

Bandipora, August 22, KDC: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, on Friday chaired a meeting with wildlife and forest department officials, along with representatives of local communities, addressing the growing monkey threat, which is causing widespread damage to crops, vegetables and orchards in many villages.

During the conversation, the villagers informed DC that the problem makes peaks during the harvesting season, saying that monkeys often infiltrate homes, damage property, and disturb peace in villages.

Wildlife officials informed the meeting that measures such as sound crackers and sound guns were already attempted, but got some success. He said that the monkeys, who are known for their adaptability, have become accustomed to human presence and co -existence. Officials advised the villagers to adopt safe waste management practices to the villagers, including the use of closed dustbins, to reduce attractions.

DC insisted that the issue is a form of human -pester struggle and needs coordinated efforts, indicating that wildlife officers cannot reduce the danger in isolation alone. He directed the concerned departments to frame both short -term and long -term strategies, while demanding immediate relief measures for the affected residents.

Indu urged the villagers to close the waste responsibly, practice waste separation, and assured them that the door-to-door waste collection and setting up of separation shade would be made convenient through the Rural Development Department (RDD). He further directed that a dedicated task force should be formed, which included wildlife and forest departments with local volunteers to jointly manage the issue.

The DC assured the residents that the district administration would develop three fierce strategy with emergent solutions, 3 months of continuous monitoring with additional deployment and the long -term policy of growing fruit trees on high mountainous areas near villages to change the habit of these animals and to change the habit of these animals.
