Dozens of people gathered at Nathan Philips Square this morning, after an eight -year -old boy, politicians took gun violence more seriously. A stray shot while living in bed last weekend.
Jahwai Roy, described by friends and family as a kind and kind child, was killed in a bed in northern York after midnight on Saturday.
The organizers of the rally burnt the sage, prayed and shared stories to honor the boy’s legacy, a day later a vigilance was held outside an apartment building where he died.
The attendees signed the flag, chanting the boy’s name and caught the arguments that argued to end gun violence.
The Executive Director of the indigenous youth agency organizing the event says that the purpose of the rally is to keep the boy’s name alive and address the effects of gun violence.
Synthia Bell says that her organization has introduced a petition at all levels of the government to make changes in the way they deal with gun violence.
