Chris Filp challenged the Tory response to legal action on shelter hotels

In a letter Tory Council, Mrs. Badenoch, stated that she as an applying council to “take equal steps” to “encourage”, “if your legal advice supports it”.

Talk to BBC Breakfast On Thursday morning (August 21), Mr. Filp said that the council did not need to take such action when the conservative power was in power, as the party was getting “the number of hotels below”.

The data of the new home office shows that the number of shelter seekers in hotels has come down from 32,345 in March this year to 32,059 in June 2025. The numbers reached the peak at the end of September 2023, when the hotel had 56,042 asylum seekers.
