Federal Minister meets Canola Lobby to discuss the new China tariff

Ottawa – Agriculture Minister Heath McDonald and International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu is meeting with Canola groups after China’s announcement this afternoon that he will kill Canada with a 75.8 percent tariff on the crop.

The ministers have been designed to meet later with the Canla Council of Canada and Canadian Canola Grocers Association today.

New duties are going to be implemented tomorrow.

Canola industry is calling for sharp action by Ottawa, warning Beijing is threatening a tariff, so it will effectively seal its $ 5 billion market for Canada.

China started an anti-dumping investigation of Canadian canola exports about a year ago.

The investigation was launched in response to 100 percent of Canada tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.
