The Public Service Commission of Canada allowed 54 federal public servants to run in recent federal elections.
Federal government employees who want to participate in federal, provincial, regional or municipal elections need to obtain permission from the Commission, said the spokesperson of the Commission.
Before permission can be given, the Commission will have to be satisfied that there is no risk to the political impartiality of public service.
More federal public servants showed interest in running in recent elections compared to previous years.
The Commission received requests from 65 public servants for permission to run in the 2025 campaign – 11 later withdrew their requests.
The Commission received 29 requests from public servants for permission to run in 2021, and 44 in 2019.
The Commission gave 38 requests in 2015 and 12 requests in 2011. The Commission says that it does not have data on the total number of requests filed in those years.

Desrocers – who worked on replacing Global Affairs Canada before the election – he believed that he needs to trim public service to make it more efficient. He said that complex processes and many levels of bureaucracy are slowing down the government’s work.
He said, “We can be more efficient in the Canadian public, how we do things,” he said.

Desrocers said that if some departments are unable to achieve their goals without cutting essential commodities and services, there will also be a “interaction”. He said that some departments may be able to make deep cuts compared to others, which may allow other departments to make small cuts.
The descendants said that when the Parliament is a return housing, its main focus will be especially for the students.
She said that she is also working on the new build Canada Homes initiative promised by liberals during the election.
Desrocers said that the government is looking for options for build Canada houses, which could become a separate agency or a unit within housing, infrastructure and communities.
He said, “We are already starting working, which we already have, the programs we have, and then we are going to see what its best governance is, but our goal is not really to make more layers of bureaucracy and approval,” he said.
“That’s why you do politics … to work on something that is going to affect people. And therefore, I think it is a privilege to work on it, in fact, it is really great.”
