Rotten meat scam shock Kashmir: Mirwaiz demands accountability and moral introspection

While distributing its Friday’s preaching at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Molvi Muhammad Umar Farooq expressed deep shocks and pain on the recent revelation that more than 3,500 kg of rotten, unnecessary, and possibly non-unnecessary meat was conveyed to various places.

Mirwaiz said that feeding people haraam or harmful food is oppression – a serious injustice. Such action is a violation of public belief and both divine commandments, social contracts and laws. Those involved in this should be completely accountable and strictly punished and punished according to the law without any delay.

“This incident has shook the trust of the people deeply. It is shocking that such a large -scale misconduct was allowed to go and uncontrol for so long, raising serious questions about the role of regulatory officers. Where was the administration at this time? How can anyone know how it can be known?

He said that the government should work with urgency and perseverance and no packed meat in the markets should be allowed in the markets without clear and compulsory labeling, verified cold storage details and halal certification.

Mirwaiz said that concerns about the true nature of seized meat within the community are increasing – with doubt whether it was permissible animals or worse, also from Carian (Matah), which is strictly prohibited in Islam.

“These are not just health violations; they are a violation of our religious boundaries and our shared values as a society,” he said.

“When we ask the authorities for accountability, this crime is also a wake-up call for us as individuals and society. It has revealed moral and moral decay in our society, where greed and profiteering have become the only driving power, even stopping at such levels.
