The outbreak of Salmonella is associated with pistachio.

Web Desk, 06/08/202506/08/2025

Canadian health officers are investigating a nationwide outbreak of Salmonella infections tied to various brands of pistachio and pistachio -containing products.

The Public Health Agency of Canada says that as of August 5, 52 laboratory-confused cases of Salmonella Havana and Salmonella Mandaka have been reported in four provinces: Quebec (39), Ontario (9), British Columbia (3), and Manitoba (1).

Nine persons have been admitted to the hospital, although no death has been reported. The affected persons are 2 to 89 years of age, including 75 percent of cases of women.

The outbreak has been linked to the Brands Habibibi, Al Mokhtar Food Center and Pistachio sold under Dubai, including Dubai’s pistachio and Kanafah milk chocolate bar, which were also available for online purchase. Contaminated nuts can be used in baked goods in retail and food service installations.

Officials have warned that the actual number of infections can be significantly higher than the report, as many individuals with light symptoms cannot take medical attention or undergo tests. According to public health estimates, for each confirmed case of Salmonella, there may be 26 unrestricted cases.

The back -called products were distributed to Ontario and Quebec.

Health Canada and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a recall warning for the products contained. Consumers are urged to check their homes and businesses withdrawn and avoid consuming, selling or serving them.

Salmonellosis, the disease caused by salmonella bacteria, usually presents symptoms such as fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps and headaches.
